About the Lincolnshire Wolds

The Lincolnshire Wolds was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1973 in recognition of its national importance.

Known for its ancient rolling landscapes and open fields, the Wolds is a region of understated beauty and quiet surprises. With well-loved attractions, an abundance of historic buildings and plenty of things to do throughout the Wolds, it attracts a variety of people all year round.
 

Market towns and villages

The Lincolnshire Wolds is home to several popular market towns such as Horncastle – named ‘the Gateway to the Wolds’ – and Louth – known as the ‘capital of the Wolds’ – which are popular visitor destinations all year round.

There are, however, hidden gems too! The village of Tealby is nestled on the edge of the Wolds and has a rich history dating all the way back to the Anglo-Saxons. Home to the oldest thatched pub in Lincolnshire, this vibrant community is the epitome of a picture-postcard English village.
