Things to do in Horncastle

A town steeped in history, you will find an abundance of things to do in Horncastle. The cobbled streets here are lined with interesting buildings, whilst the town centre is full of unique independent shops.

There are a number of historic places of interest to check out, from the 13^th century St Mary’s Church to the Bull Ring – an area once famous for cockfighting and bull-baiting.

One of the best ways to discover Horncastle’s hidden gems is to explore on foot. There are some great walking trails here, which will take you both around the town and out into the Wolds.

You can walk as far as Woodhall Spa with the Spa Trail, or simply explore the town centre with the Horncastle Heritage Trail. Each walking trail features different points of interest, from historic architecture to ancient woodland and waterways.

If you’re not sure where to start, head to the Joseph Banks Centre. Home to the town’s tourist information team, you’ll find leaflets for local attractions, as well as maps for the local walking and cycling routes.

This community-run centre is also home to a museum, where you can uncover the stories of the people who helped shape Lincolnshire’s history - from botanists and explorers to hangmen and convicts.

As Horncastle is situated in the centre of Lincolnshire, day trips to the city, coast and countryside are easy. Whether you choose to soak up some history in Lincoln, or soak up some sun at the seaside, a whole host of adventures await.

You don’t have to venture far to uncover some of Lincolnshire’s hidden gems. The charming town of Woodhall Spa is just a short drive away, as are the peaceful villages of Tattershall and Coningsby. These popular destinations each boast their own wealth of attractions, including the beautiful Tattershall Castle, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Centre and the historic Kinema in the Woods.
